Aylok is an isolationist, ultra-conservative ryphorian city-state, located the central Allied Territories north of Lake Delfic. Its ruling imperators refuse modernisation, do not accept the authority of the Pact Worlds, and forbid all starship flight over its airspace, shooting down all violators and giving them life sentences or worse. Those who seek to come to Aylok and trade for its magical goods must do so by land, through a jagged, trap-lined plain full of monsters bred for defence. The imperators claim that this isolationism, despite the damage it does to the city's economy, is the only way to avoid being assimilated by the encroaching Pact Worlds, but some suspect that the true reasons are Aylok's humanoid rights violations and experiments on genetically altered dragonkin.
