Outpost Zed is an outlaw space station located in the Nys system, on the periphery of the Azlanti Star Empire. It calls itself the last outpost of freedom on the edge of the Star Empire.12

History

Outpost Zed began life as an Azlanti asteroid-mining platform. Almost a century ago, the Azlanti abandoned the outpost and removed all their mining equipment, but kept the station intact, and many pirates and drifters moved in. Due to the harsh Azlanti laws determining what citizens can and can't own, Outpost Zed became a moderately bustling market, diverse enough to attract traders from the entire Star Empire and wealthy enough to bribe the authorities into leaving it alone.1

Inhabitants

Outpost Zed is effectively split into two parts: the abandoned rooms where human-sized creatures do business, and the network of pipes and ducts that intersect the entire station, where smaller creatures inhabit. These two communities interact only at limited trading grounds, and rarely enough to count as two different settlements.1

Outpost Zed has no official law enforcement or authority. However, its inhabitants consider it a respite from Azlanti tyranny and have a vested interest in keeping their home intact and maintaining the local market trustworthy, free of imperial rule. Personal matters are usually allowed to settle without intervention, but even the most evil residents, like the draelik bouncers, will defend the local merchants against thieves or outside threats.12

The Azlanti Star Empire tolerates Outpost Zed. They sometimes sweep around the station and arrest people, but the Azlanti are paid off enough and make use of the outpost themselves, so their presence is rare.2
