Eclipse Academy is a secretive magic academy known by few outside of Apostae, where classes are cruel and experimental and push students to their limits.1

Members

Eclipse's students do not submit applications; instead, they are drawn from a list nominated by drow houses. All students swear an oath of secrecy enforced by powerful magic. Most students are drow; the rest are half-orcs, free orcs and outworlders, who got sponsored by drow houses after performing a service, agreeing to work as an agent or simply showing unusual potential. Some whisper that an invitation is both a reward and a way to simultaneously remove those who know too much and indebt them to the house. Refusing an admission is all but impossible, since nominators and sponsors are quick to be offended.1

Professors expelled from other institutions for dangerous magic and ethical violations are celebrated at Eclipse, if their work yields results.1

Only a fifth of Eclipse's students manage to graduate. Those that fail in the first year and do not have a powerful protector are sent to gruelling physical work. In the later years, severe mental stress, trauma and death are common. Those who graduate become unparallelled masters that still have to deal with the emotional and physical damage they suffered. Much to the consternation of drow supremacists, the few half-orc students actually have the highest graduation rate; in spite of constant harassment, they trust, rely on and help each other succeed.1

Sites

Eclipse Academy's entrance is a black tower 80 feet high, made of a ceramic-like substance. The rest of the campus is underground, and those who need to use lights to navigate it are endlessly harassed.1
